Save SOUTH BARRINGTON WETLANDS
STOP THE DEVELOPMENT OF BARTLETT ROAD AND ROUTE 59 (Area N)
Development Of Bartlett Road and Route 59 (Area N)
Opposition to the Sale of Area N:
The South Barrington Park District (SBPD) is considering selling Area N to Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) for the development of both a school and a church. The residents object to this, emphasizing that SBPD's mission is preserving wetlands, open spaces, and parks. Selling Area N contradicts this objective.
The PBCC development will provide zero benefits to the residents of South Barrington because it is a closed, non-inclusive, unwelcoming society, which is also contrary to the mission of the SBPD and the Village of South Barrington.
Concerns over Revenue and Costs:
The residents are confused why the SBPD is selling Area N at a loss. The land was purchased for $3.1 million in 2004 but is now being sold for $1.75 million to the PBCC. This realized loss coupled with the land sold to a non-tax generating entity is a double hit to the residents as well as against the stated mission of the SBPD.
Increased Taxes and Strain on Public Resources:
It's pointed out that SBPD states this sale will not increase taxes. This is false because the PBCC is a non-tax paying entity but will use public services and increase wear and tear on roads/infrastructure without paying taxes to compensate for this use, leaving it to residents to pick up their cost.
Safety Concerns and Traffic:
Major safety concerns have been raised regarding the increased traffic proposed to access PBCC via Acadia Drive, which is part of a residential community. There are worries about the significant rise in traffic given the PBCC size, affecting residents who utilize the road for outdoor activities
Definition and Implication of Nuisance:
The residents claim that the PBCC development can be deemed a nuisance as per the Village of South Barrington Code due to the resulting noise and disturbance. They also provide a legal definition of a nuisance, mentioning that permitting access to Acadia Drive would disrupt the peace and safety of residents.
Prevent an increase in your property tax by emailing the SBPD Board of Commissioners and the South Barrington Village Board of Trustees and Mayor to oppose this construction
